Researching themes in romance novels [Jan. 15th, 2008|10:22 pm]

Hello,

I am working on my master's thesis in Japanese literature, and for comparative reasons I need a list of themes in romance novels.

What I am looking for is any theme that you can think of, be it common or not, that has appeared in a romance novel.  If you can give me an example of a book with the theme or an author who uses it frequently I would appreciate it.

Thank you!

Yes fellow readers...you read that right. Stephenie Meyer's famous young adult book "Twilight" is being made into a movie. It is to be released in August 2008. Kristen Stewart is playing Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson is playing Edward. If you all don't know who Robert Pattinson is...well if you've seen the Harry Potter movies, you would recognize him as Cedric Diggory. :) I am completely excited about this and can not wait for the movie to be released. How cool is this? Here's the website....

Happy Reading!

Hey all. I havne't posted too much since I have moved out of my parents house and into my own apartment. I don't have the internet at my apartment so I still use it at my parents. Anyways, here is my 2007 BooklistCollapse )

There was one book that I never did finish and that was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I was rereading this book because of the 7th book coming out and I never finished. So I've added up all the pages I've read this year and the Grand Total is... 20,337 pages! I feel so accomplished since I fulfilled my goals which were to read at least 50 books this year and after I beat that, I made a new goal of reading at least 20,000 pages. :) It feels good.

Anyways, here are the best and worst books of 2007Collapse )

So with 2007 gone and moving into 2008 with a clean slate of books, I started out with my 2008 GoalsCollapse )

So there we have it. Best and worst books of 2007, grand total of pages I've read, and my goals for 2008.

Excerpt: Medicine, Horses, & Motherhood [Dec. 17th, 2007|04:20 pm]
Romance Lovers Paradise
free_excerpts
I have permission from publisher Sunstone Press to distribute an excerpt from an unusual crossover novel by Texas surgeon Barbara Bergin. "Endings" mixes Bergin's own worlds of medicine, horses, and motherhood with a strong romantic core.

It's the story of Leslie Cohen, a 40-year-old doctor who perpetually takes temporary "locum tenens" assignments to stay on the move. While filling in for an orthopedist in Abilene, Texas, she meets a man who might make her quit running.

"Endings" is laced with loving descriptions of ranch and horse life, packed with fascinating accounts of medical procedures, and loaded with mystery surrounding Leslie's hidden history.

The excerpt is entitled "Reining" and is a detailed scene at a horse event that Leslie and her date attend. It shows off the author's background as a nationally ranked horsewoman.

You can read the excerpt at the following URL:

Recommendations? [Nov. 19th, 2007|06:49 am]

Hello, new here... but that isn't the point.

I was wondering if anyone on here could recommend a book series to me.
Naturally, I'd like it to be romance. But here is an example of what I like to read-

I like the works of Karen Marie Moning best(Her Webstite). So anything that is somewhat similar, I'd probably like.
I also like it when the 'fated pairing' of the novel, kind of hold dislike for each other at first or at least bicker a lot.

I am open to any genre of romance from Supernatural to Modern day... but I am one for a good fantasy/romance novel...

Thank you and I'm sorry if this kind of post is against the rules, if it is, just let me know and I'll delete it.

Hey all, I just wanted to put my 2 cents in here for a moment. There's this new series out that it freakin awesome and I think if you guys like young adult/fantasy/vampires/goddess' then maybe you would like this series. It's called the House of Night Novels by P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast. They are really good and I haven't been moved to write a recommendation entry to all of you in a while even though I have read some really good books but I had to put this out there because they are just too good to pass up. :) Anyways, the first book is called "Marked" and the second book is called "Betrayal". Their ISBN numbers are 0-312-36026-6 and 0-312-36028-2. I hope you all check it out. It's fantastic.

Jennifer Ashley hasn't let me down yet with her books that I have had the pleasure of reading.

I already finished reading "Penelope and Prince Charming" and I am now on "The Mad Bad Duke" which will take me awhile to finish since I haven't had much time to read it.
Now this book has a pretty large amount of fantasy in it,which I love by the way, and it is sooo interesting reading the different characters and creatures she has in here.
So if your really into fantasy you will love this.

Ashley is also the author I have been raving about that wrote the Pirate books that I love so much. She was my first Pirate book author and now I can't stop reading about them.

Oh please read, if not this book one of hers. She is good at what she does.
